Fitness: Evidence, Training & Recovery

Fitness progress is built with training, recovery and consistency—not shortcuts. Use this hub to find practical, evidence-aware articles on exercise, performance claims and recovery choices.

Information here is educational. If you have a health condition, symptoms or an injury, seek advice from an appropriately qualified health professional before changing your programme.

A better way to assess performance claims

Start with the outcome: strength, endurance, pain, body composition or return to sport. Then ask whether the proposed intervention has good human evidence for that outcome, whether the effect is meaningful, and what the risks and trade-offs are. A promising mechanism is not a substitute for a reliable trial.

The foundations still matter most

  • A progressive training plan suited to your experience and goals.
  • Enough recovery, sleep and energy intake to support the work you are doing.
  • Technique, load management and a gradual return after injury or illness.
  • Professional assessment when pain persists, function changes or symptoms are concerning.
